Interesting historical fact – Norfolk pines were planted along the coast by early explorers as they were perfectly suited to being used as ships masts. If a mast was damaged at sea or getting too long in the tooth, the captain could order his motley crew to cut down one of the pines along the coast, strip it, and mount it on the ship.
